Postpartum Return to Run Guidelines with Grainne Donnelly

Today I am speaking with Gráinne Donnelly, one of the authors of the Postpartum Return to Run Guidelines. She and her colleagues saw that there was nothing substantial to guide moms and postpartum professionals in helping them return to running after having a baby. Their work gave a starting point but showed that there is a large need for me research. Through their findings, they are pushing for the big postpartum check to be at 12 weeks instead of 6 weeks.

We  talk about:

-postpartum return to run guidelines

-changing from 6 weeks to 12 weeks

-timeline of tissue healing

-empowering women for more substantial exercise

-explaining the 12 week timeframe

-permission to “go slow”

-considerations for moms
